A link to the past: the Civilian Conservation Corps

Liz Marthaler, Assistant Property Manager at Mounds State Park, will discuss the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the impact this program had on national, state, and local park systems within the United States, including their impact on the Indiana State Park system.  Liz will also discuss issues that these CCC built parks are facing and one possible solution to those issues.

The CCC, established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933, was a voluntary work relief program that offered employment to single young men during the Great Depression.  Most assignments involved land management and park construction and enhancement, including work at more than a dozen state parks in Indiana.

The program will start at 7 p.m. at Ball State’s Nature Lab, located at 2500 W. University Ave. in Muncie. Parking is available on the south side of the building and is free after 5 p.m. The building is wheelchair-accessible.  The presentation can also be viewed remotely by Zoom.  Register in advance, below. After registering, you’ll receive confirmation and details about joining the meeting.
