Salamonie River State Forest is a beautiful 950-acre forest in Wabash and Huntington Counties. It should be a great place to see some migrants, other birds returning to their breeding grounds, and those who never left! Salamonie Lake, directly adjacent to the forest, hosts a variety of waterfowl on its 2,600+ acres.
On Saturday, June 3, at 8:30 a.m., we’ll meet at the Hominy Ridge Picnic area in the Salamonie River State Forest. (See map; the forest and Hominy Ridge are highlighted in pink at the top left corner. In Google Maps, search for “Hominy Ridge Lake.”)
We’ll bird in the forest during the morning and then picnic, weather permitting, so bring a sack lunch. After lunch we’ll explore other areas around the reservoir.
